The gospel calls all of us to learn and commit to Christ. Jesus did not call the gatherings of people around him Sunday School, but his words and actions clearly teach that learning and faith are interwoven. Through baptism we are named and claimed as God's own. Our weekly return to baptism is a "post-it-note" reminder of who we are and how God wants us to live. Sunday school is a place for children, youth and adults to hear the Bible story and to be reminded of their baptismal identity. It is a place for us to sense our belonging as God's children and to grow in the knowledge of God's love. It is a place where we use and discover our gifts as we learn how to be Christian disciples.
Zion’s Mission is to connect to people in Love, communicate the Gospel and help people commit to Jesus Christ. Our Sunday school program uses the traditional approach of a basic framework and content that is delivered in many innovative ways. Sunday school typically meets between our Sunday services—from 9:45 to 10:45 at the CEB (Christian Education Building). Once a month, we celebrate Family worship as a group with a special service for children and parents—all are welcome to this special intergenerational service celebrating our families. Our regular classes are organized by age or grade (often two grades together) with one or two teachers for each. Children from age 3 through the 8th grade are invited to join our Sunday School. Older youth and adults of all ages are invited to join in and help pass on the faith, as well as renew their own commitment to Jesus Christ. Bible stories, activities, music, and crafts are augmented with computer learning, intergenerational learning events, special projects (e.g. pancake breakfasts), inter-class friendly competitions, innovative multi-sensory activities, and clear connections with worship and other congregational activities. Zion’s Sunday school helps our children learn about God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, build a lasting relationship with other children, and love God with all their heart, mind, and strength in a enjoyable environment that they will want to come back to week after week.
