Summer Fun in Rehoboth
For the past 20 summers, the Youth of Zion have ventured to Rehoboth Beach, Delaware for a week of friendship, freedom, and a lasting sense of community. The week is filled with staying up late, nightly trips to the ice cream parlor, daily worship, shopping, playing at the arcade, relaxing on the beach, and just hanging out. Taking over a three story beach house just steps from the mile-long boardwalk and always amazing Atlantic Ocean, the youth take turns with making meals and housekeeping chores.
The “buddy system” and the “rock or fish” assignments keep everyone safe while allowing just the right amount of “controlled freedom.” On Sunday we worship at a local church (very local – just across the street!), the congregation already expecting us and loving the company of their New Jersey guests.
One of the traditions of the trip is helping Pastor Summer write a song filled with inside jokes and daily happenings. The advisors and the kids grow so close over the course of trip that it’s hard not to keep coming back. The whole experience is so much fun and brings a huge sense of family to YOZ. We love it!
