Interfaith Hospitality Network
(IHN)
Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) is a partnership of local congregations and volunteers helping families who are facing homelessness by meeting their immediate needs for shelter, meals, and support services. Nationally, 40% of the homeless population is comprised of families, most forced into this situation by job loss, fire or natural disaster, lack of affordable housing, or an injury that prevents the provider from working. IHN is the only shelter in Hunterdon County that keeps families together while helping them regain their housing. Nationally the program is a success, with 80% of IHN families achieving long-term housing. Zion has been an IHN partner since 1990.
Zion hosts IHN three times each year. As
a host church, Zion is responsible for providing lodging and meals for up to
fourteen people for a two-week period.
Volunteers are needed to cook meals, have dinner with guests, play with
children, socialize with families, and stay overnight at the church. It is an opportunity to live out your faith
by offering kindness, respect, and support to families as they regain their
independence and their dignity. Watch
for the signup list in the church narthex when it is our turn to host!
