Membership at Zion Lutheran Church

At Zion, we define a member as someone who:

·         Has received the sacrament of Baptism

·         Has joined the congregation either by certificate of transfer from another Lutheran congregation or by affirmation of faith

·         Has the privilege and duty to make regular use of the means of grace, both Word and sacraments

·         Lives a Christian life in accordance with the Word of God and the teachings of the Lutheran church

·         Supports the work of the congregation, synod and the church-wide organization of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America through contributions of time, abilities and financial support


How to become a member of Zion

Throughout the year, we offer new member classes typically held in between the two Sunday morning services at our Christian Education Building.  There are three classes in total which are jointly conducted by our pastors and a representative from our Evangelism committee.


First New Member Class
Everything You Wanted to Know About Being a Lutheran

·         Bring the family.  All family members may attend, however we also welcome children to attend Sunday School during that time

·         Discover what the Lutheran church is all about

·         Understand the process for becoming a new member

·         Ask questions about the church

·         Receive new member paperwork


Second New Member Class
Expectations: Yours and Ours

·         Learn and share how people are connected and committed to Zion

·         Find out how our church works

·         Learn more about our ministries

·         Hear about stewardship at Zion

·         Familiarize yourself with our church and Christian Education Building

·         Smile for the camera – we’ll take photos of those who decide to join for our newsletter


Third New Member Class
Membership Sunday & Celebrate With Council

·         Be received into membership at one of Zion’s Sunday worship services

·         Meet the members of Zion’s church council in between services at the Christian Education Building

·         Receive materials that identify how you can get involved at Zion and continue your discipleship journey
