Christian Education for Children
Sunday School
Here at Zion, Sunday School is a weekly opportunity for children ages 3 to 6th grade to learn about the Gospel, the Bible and the faith. Sunday School runs from September through June, 9:45-10:45 am every Sunday morning. Augsburg’s Witness Curriculum builds learners’ understanding of the salvation story with different age-appropriate Bible stories, engaging art, music and activities each week. There are a variety of special events and service projects that are also part of the Sunday School experience:
· Advent and Lenten rotational workshops
· All-School Pentecost and Palm Sunday celebrations
· Rally Day
· Muffins with Mom, Doughnuts with Dad
· Christmas Pageant
· Collections for Heifer International
First Holy Communion
The sacrament of Holy Communion is offered to all students in grade 4. Both parents and students attend a series of classes held during the season of Lent. Students receive Communion for the first time on Maundy Thursday.
Confirmation
Students
in grades 7 and 8 are invited to begin preparation for confirmation. Zion’s 2-year confirmation program
incorporates weekly classes and special programs during the Sunday School hour
and uses the curriculum Free to Be
and Chosen. During
confirmation preparation, students are expected to regularly attend worship and
weekly classes and complete one personal project and one family project.
