What to Expect
When you visit Zion you can expect meaningful worship, friendly people, great music, and a comfortable setting to connect with God.
The church is located in the center of the
Worship
Zion’s congregation worships at two services on Sunday morning at 8:30 AM and 11:00 AM. During the summer, one worship service is held at 9:30am. Holy Communion is offered every Sunday. The setting of the liturgy changes for the different church seasons. In addition to various settings from the Evangelical Lutheran Worship, the Lutheran Book of Worship, and With One Voice, we have used Dale Wood’s liturgical setting for Lent and Of Land and Seasons during Pentecost.
On the second Sunday of every month (September through June), a Family Worship service is held at the Christian Education Building at 9:45 AM. The focus of this service is on Sunday school children and their families with contemporary music accompanied by a Praise Band.
Every Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM, a Vespers service is held in the Christian Education Building. During the summer months this changes to a service of Holy Communion to accommodate our members who are out of town for the weekend.
At the Church
When you enter the church vestibule (narthex) for worship, you will be greeted by a member and given a bulletin by an usher. This bulletin includes today’s lessons, hymn numbers, and announcements.
When you choose your seat, in the pew rack you will find:
o The order of worship (liturgy) in the seasonal worship booklet
o The red ELW which contains the hymns
o A Bible
o Cards for visitors and communion
o Envelopes for general and special offerings
At our Sunday worship services, there is a pattern to our service (liturgy).
o We gather for worship, confess our sins and hear God’s word of forgiveness.
o Having been forgiven, we sing God’s praise and hear God’s Word through scripture and sermon.
o From God’s Word, we confess our faith, offer our gifts, and lift up our prayers.
o We are invited to come to our Lord’s table for communion (Eucharist).
o Finally, we receive God's blessing and are sent forth to serve.
All are welcome to receive communion.
o The 8:30 service celebrates through continuous communion and intinction.
o The 11:00 service celebrates communion at tables with wafer and individual glasses of wine.
Please let the pastor or assistant know if you prefer grape juice or a gluten-free wafer.
At the Christian Education Building
The church offices are located to the right of the lobby after entering the building from the parking lot. To the left of the lobby, through two sets of double doors, is the Great Room, where Family Worship, Wednesday evening Vespers, Sunday School openings, and large gatherings of the congregation take place.
If you haven't seen it yet, our Come Home to Zion video will give you a good idea of what you'll find at Zion. We can't wait to meet you!
